Music was his expression.
Walking around in a fog today at the sudden loss of my friend Paul over the weekend. I’m stunned. Here he is graciously laying down one of his grooves for me to mess up with my noise. Great memories from those days in The Arrest. Rest in God’s peace, friend.
Pauly P. Paulkerson. No man could look better in a black shirt and tie behind a kit. There simply wasn’t enough time for The Arrest 2.0 How I do miss those rehearsal days right now… the office/practice space in downtown St. Paul, cords and amps where desks and filing cabinets should be, the beer “sampling” sessions, the awkwardly large carton of goldfish crackers, the theological debates, the goofy antics, your gloriously unmistakable laugh, and, by some miracle, the ability to have just enough of the evening left to create music together. As others have already mentioned however, my sadness, the sadness of all those who miss you, is so greatly eclipsed by the joy you now know in the presence of your Savior! And those of us who treasure Christ as you did will indeed play with you once again, joining in chorus 10 thousand by 10 thousand strong before the Lamb… in the new city… without end…
I can't believe you're gone. You were always like my big brother. For 20+ years, we've been buddies and I just can't believe you're just gone. Who's going to giggle with me about all the inappropriate things? Who's going to make up countless songs trying to rhyme my name somehow? Who will photo bomb our pictures? Who will spill chicken wings all over Gwen's lap right before a show?
It was an honor to be your friend and to make beautiful music with you - a true highlight of my life. We went on a lot of adventures too and I'm thankful for all the laughs and deep conversations.
While I know you're jamming with Jesus, we're going to really miss you. Love ya brother - until we meet again.
I’m at a loss for words over the loss of Paul! I had to listen to old rock rehearsals to hear his contagious laugh today. Paul was the drummer, CEO, entrepreneur, dreamer, writer and brother who gave me a chance. Every day for SO many years I would see his face. You will be missed brother! Prayers for Gwen Clanton Budish Aiden, Ezra and Chloe.
